Thomas Messmer joined IRG in early 2003 with primary responsibility for managing the adaptive reuse of an historic 80-acre property formerly operated by NASA in Downey, California.  This mixed-use redevelopment includes historic preservation of architecturally-significant office buildings and construction of the nation’s largest movie soundstages utilizing old aviation and spacecraft manufacturing buildings.

Prior to joining IRG, Mr. Messmer spent 24 years with Corning Incorporated as a Director of Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations through a variety of global assignments.  During this time, he successfully managed project teams in 11 countries, delivering 35 new facilities and major expansions including high-tech manufacturing, office, R & D, and retail space.  Mr. Messmer’s project teams directed $135 million in capital projects across Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, Mexico, and South America.  His career is interspersed with assignments in technology and operations management, having led engineering, product development and manufacturing in a variety of business including art glass, ceramics, consumer products, packaging and distribution, and optical telecommunications equipment.

Mr. Messmer’s current focus within IRG includes the development of new projects which include significant historic preservation components complimented by major new construction.

Mr. Messmer has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo and an MBA with a concentration in Organizational Management from Syracuse University.
